Monchi has defended Roma's sale of Mohamed Salah to Liverpool.

Roma sold Salah to Liverpool for an initial £36.9 million and that the club had to do it to comply with Financial Fair Play.

“I sold him for more than €42 million,” Monchi told the Spanish radio station Onda Cero. “We had a need to sell. We had no option but to sell Salah before 30 June. Had we not done that, we probably wouldn’t be here playing the semi-final of the Champions League as we had Uefa closely monitoring us.

“We didn’t want to sell him but we had no choice. We had to take an offer before the end of the month. He wanted to leave, but we would have kept him if the regulations weren’t against us. When I arrived, the offer [from Liverpool] was €30m but we managed to get it up to almost €50m with bonuses. That is what we could do. The market then went crazy with Neymar, Coutinho and Dembélé.”

Jose Mourinho has downplayed the possibility of a major overhaul of Manchester United's roster this summer.

Sources say Mourinho's top priority is to find a central midfielder to replace Michael Carrick.

"We are going to invest the basic to improve our squad," Mourinho said. "We are going again to touch our squad and believe that more than spend, spend, spend, is probably the evolution of our players.

"We have some young players that need to get, with both hands, opportunities with their evolution, so let's see."

Pep Guardiola is interested in signing Jorginho as a replacement for Yaya Toure at Manchester City.

Napoli is expected to demand a minimum €60 million (£52.5 million) for the defensive midfielder.

City and Napoli were in the same Champions League group this season and Jorginho impressed Guardiola home and away.

Guardiola also wants a forward after missing out on Alexis Sanchez.

Paris Saint-Germain has made contact with the agent of Paul Pogba.

PSG pursued a transfer for Pogba in 2016 before he chose his £89.3 million return to Manchester United.

According to the source, Mino Raiola has spoken with a number of clubs about the possibility of landing Pogba.

PSG's ability to finance two massive deals like that is in question with regards to financial fair play (FFP), but Friday's meeting between PSG and UEFA should make the club's situation clearer on that front.

Diego Simeone believes Atletico Madrid can convince Antoine Griezmann to remain with the club this summer.

Last summer, Griezmann considered a move to Manchester United before signing a new deal with Atleti. 

Barcelona has recently been linked with Griezmann and are prepared to pay his €100 million release clause.

"We want the best for Griezmann," Simeone said. "We must make him see that this team can keep growing, I hope we can do that. That things are real, not just words. If we keep fighting with Barcelona, and until the final of the Europa League, we will see that each year we do something good. We must give him all the tools so that, when he needs to decide, he inclines towards staying with us."

Jurgen Klopp is not worried about the possibility of Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool.

Salah has become one of the world's best players since his transfer from Roma last summer.

Salah has been linked with Real Madrid.

"I know that Mo feels really good here, and he knows that our style of play is perfect for him," he said. "I don't have any worries."

Klopp said Salah had first caught his eye during his time at Swiss club Basel, adding: "I must stress that we have an outstanding scouting department. They always told us: 'Sign him!'

"And you could see when he was playing alongside Edin Dzeko at Roma that he can kick the ball around."

Manchester United plan on rejecting any offers this summer for Marcus Rashford.

Rashford could look to leave United to secure more regular first-team starts.

Rashford has not always been a regular starter since Jose Mourinho took over from Louis van Gaal and has faced increased competition following the January arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

Rashford signed a four-year contract in 2016 that will keep him at Old Trafford until at least 2020. United also have an option to extend the deal by an additional 12 months.

Danny Drinkwater may seek to leave Chelsea this summer after he was unable to establish himself with the club following his transfer from Leicester City.

Drinkwater was acquired for £35 million.

Chelsea still consider Drinkwater a player with great potential. Drinkwater previously played with N'Golo Kante at Leicester.

Gareth Bale is not thinking any differently about his future with Real Madrid despite falling down their pecking order.

During Bale's first four seasons with Real Madrid, his starting place was essentially guaranteed when fit. Bale has often sat big matches.

"Gareth is a Real Madrid player and loves Real Madrid and Real Madrid love Gareth," agent Jonathan Barnett told ESPN FC. "All this talk about leaving is written by reporters who have no idea what is going on and who need to write something and don't care if it is true or not."

Bale joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013.

Bale has been linked most strongly with Manchester United since joining Real Madrid.

Fernando Torres has confirmed he will leave Atletico Madrid in the summer.

Torres has made just three starts this season.

"This is going to be my last season at the club," Torres told a news conference. "It hasn't been an easy decision and it has been tough to make, but I feel obliged to tell the fans.

"You can see that my role has been very limited. I believe it's the right time to announce it. My conscience is clear and I believe I've given everything I could. My idea had been to hang up my boots here."

Torres wants to continue to play and could go to the United Staes or China.

"I want to continue playing for two, three or five years," he said. "I haven't chosen another team or taken any decision.

"Now I will listen to offers, evaluate them and choose one. Before now, I didn't want to do that."
